Size 2 French Edger

"Got this edger and the blade was chewed up and not cutting anything. I while I was stropping I could see a burr actually forming like you would normally see while sharpening with a stone. The steel used in these is very soft and bridle."

Edger, skiver does not shave

"Disappointed with this tool. The blade does not cut into the leather. I bought this because I often need to reduce the thickness of a large area while keeping nominal thickness on the same piece. This tool wil not help with that effort. This kind of performance is not typical from a weaver tool."

Bought because I need to

"Bought because I need to skive large areas of leather for my rapier frogs. Can’t afford a machine skiver so giving this a try. Don’t know yet how this will work."

Do you guys QC these things at all?

"Second attempt at a review, second time taking a shot on these things. I have received, reviewed and returned a No. 3 replacement blade, which was returned because it had a substantial divot in the blade. But, when the No. 2 came back in stock, I thought “well, let’s try it, I need some Barge anyway, maybe the first was a fluke”, so I ordered the 2 and another 3. Before even opening the package I could *see* that the edge on the No. 2 was dinged up, why can’t y’all? I opened it to take pictures, which I have, but is this what I can expect from something Weaver puts their name on? I am not expecting a custom tool here, but seriously? Additionally, the number 3 is dull as dirt out of the package. What gives? So will cost me, as it did last time, 5$ to send back an obviously.anyone.could.see.was.defective 12$ blade? Yep. Sweet."

Just not very good

"I bought the No. 1 and 3, as 2 was out of stock; figured this would give me a nice intro to skiving; the No. 3 had a pretty noticeable nick in the blade to one side, and neither was very sharp. Tried to bevel an edge with the smaller and it was scraping, not cutting. Disappointed, as apart from leaving skid marks, the other inserts work adequately, if being a little dull out of the box. No. 3 sent back, almost not worth the postage to bother, unfortunate."

Blade quick to dull, sharpening isn't effective

"I wrote a review for a similar quick-change edge beveler that was great for someone who was looking for something affordable and didn't mind doing a bit of woodworking to make a nice handle. I tried the same for this and found that the edge just doesn't really hold up to skiving. I tried to sharpen it, but if anything, the blade became even less resilient after sharpening. I think the blade is not hardened/tempered, as I can dig into it pretty easily with a file. I would suggest looking for a different edger (though the beveler is great!)"
