Thursday, February 20th; Session 1: All Things Leather, Hardware and Adornments (Two 3-hour sessions)
Start your journey by learning about the different types of leather, their characteristics, and how to choose the right leather for your projects. You will gain an understanding of leather weights, the differences between chrome-tanned and vegetable-tanned leather, and how leather reacts to water, setting a solid foundation for your crafting endeavors.
Next, you’ll learn how to enhance your leather projects with the right hardware and decorative elements. Instructors will help you understand hardware finishes and sizing, as well as how to use closures, rivets, and Chicago screws in your projects. Unleash your creativity by adding unique adornments to make your projects truly stand out.
Friday, February 21st; Session 2: Tools, Surfaces, and Leather Finishes (Two 3-hour sessions)
Gain hands-on experience with essential leathercrafting tools and techniques. Learn about different working surfaces and master the use of punches, cutting tools, skiving knives, and edging tools. Discover the art of sewing, stamping designs, and using templates to achieve professional results in your leather projects.
Finish your leather projects with expert techniques for dying, conditioning, and sealing. Explore various types of dyes and methods for applying color, and learn how to condition and seal leather to ensure its durability and longevity. Compare edge painting with burnishing agents to find the best finishing method for your pieces.
